THE HUMOR FOR YOUR HEALTH OFFICE MESSAGE

Welcome back! What a time this has been over the last couple of months. How have you been handling everything? We welcome your emails as always.

There have been many shifts in our Humor business. We find lately an outpouring of need to use and understand humor for it's healing ways. It is both personally or for those that are responsible for leading large groups of people.

Please note there is 2 months left to get your Humor story in for the Humor Club Contest Grand Prize drawing from all the 2001 entries!

We at the Humor for your Health Office continue to send our love out to everyone affected by the September 11, 2001 devastation. We know there is nothing funny about what happened, what we do know is that humor will play a big part in the healing process. Every occurrence we go through in life defines and measures our growth. Humor for your Health is here to help in whatever way we can. We will donate 5% of all our earnings from September -December 2001 to the United Way to help support the well-being and recovery efforts along with all the other ways we are assisting.

HUMOR CLUB CONTEST WINNER

October 2001 Winner - Congratulations to our Student Winner - Josie Dirtert!

We most recently had Dan visit our School to give us a talk on 'Humor for your Health'. Mostly I enjoyed the talk and loved the Comedy show at the end! I found that I paid attention most when he spoke about Harmful vs. Healing Humor. It was about how to be appropriate and inappropriate with humor. I wrote down the notes of how to break the cycle of harmful humor and use it daily. I think it is because I am aware now of the importance of humor and how sometimes it can be used to hurt people. It is a big issue in schools now, especially the bullying through what someone finds funny and how they tease and bully others.

I hope this fits into your Humor Club Contest because I really want to win a Guidebook and would be proud to wear the T-Shirt!

Harmful vs. Healing Humor is Chapter 8 in the Humor for your Health Guidebook.

OUR VIEW

Our view this month is the Tenth Chapter of the Humor for your Health Guidebook entitled Surviving.

This chapter focuses on life's journey that offer you four major challenges for your sense of humor: loss, illness, death and grief.

It certainly has been quite a set of experiences over the last few months. As our view this month, we were going to pick just one subject of the above 4 to focus on. They really are all connected with each other so we are covering a bit of each.

Let's cover the idea of loss. It explains that we all go through times of loss in one way or the other throughout our life. Such examples would be; a job, an accident, a death, an illness, a crime, or an unrealized or unfulfilled goal.

Under the topic of grief it states that it is important to realize and accept that grieving over a loss is quite natural. The survival phases of grief are three-fold:

1. Shock and/or denial.   2. Start to feel.   3. Move on.

These points are explained in more detail in the Guidebook.

The illness section focuses on ' The Great Things Humor Gives Where Illness Lives.' It explains that humor can be used as a medication to soothe, defer and alleviate.

On the subject of death it states that death is a very sensitive and personal subject and must be given great respect. 'Death is one of the greatest ironies history has ever known' is also explained in more detail.

There are also 'Tips to Move On', '4 Steps to Bring Healing to Someone in Need' and 'Humor's Codes to deal with Death's Load.'

After the September incident it really felt good to read this Chapter and to allow for these stages to happen. I trust that this has helped and if you would like to order the Guidebook please go to order form.

WAYS TO PLAY

We have added this section as a means of keeping it REAL with HUMOR! In this section we will advise you on the benefits of PLAY and some ways to PLAY! We welcome your input on the ways you PLAY at info@humorforyourhealth.com.

BENEFIT – it mobilizes energy to lift you out of guilt, despair and sorrow.

ONE SUGGESTION ON HOW TO PLAY – When you truly give yourself to play (the way you love to play the most)-you are focused on what you are doing and your mind is only on what is going on for those moments in time. It takes your mind off of other things and keeps you centered in the moment.
