June 2001

"WARNING- Humor may be hazardous to your illness."

THE HUMOR FOR YOUR HEALTH OFFICE MESSAGE

Hello again! It's Marianna, the Humor for your Health Office Manager. This is the part of the site where I get to share some of my views! I am trusting you had a month where humor played an essential part….

The first news is that we will be having one newsletter for the months of July & August. We will still give out two (2) Humor Club Contest monthly prizes and post them both on the September Newsletter.

The second thing is, have you ever researched what it means to you when a word or phrase catches your attention? Well the word VALUE is coming up a lot in my life. What is the value of anything? You can read more as I dedicated this month's 'Our View' to the VALUE of humor.

I am also leaving this paragraph in our Newsletter to ensure you that every Humor story is significant enough to submit. EVERY story in which humor has enhanced your life and health is a story worth sharing. It is both beneficial for the storyteller because it puts you in the energy of joy and one line or word from it can make a difference in someone else's life. Thank you for changing lives through your humor!

AND we are keeping it REAL with HUMOR!

HUMOR CLUB CONTEST WINNER

May 2001 WINNER - Congrats goes to Corinne Charko of White City, SK

Corinne's Story;

When I was in post-secondary school, I was constantly stressed out and I hated waking up each morning because I just thought it was going to be another gloomy day. There was a girl in one of my classes that was always happy and people liked talking to her and enjoyed her company. I asked her one-day how she manages to be happy all the time. She told me that she used to be grumpy all the time but it took too much energy, it is just easier being happy.

It was than that I realized that I have to find more humor in my life. When things go wrong I try to find something funny about the situation. I also realized that it is nice to make people laugh too. I find I now have more friends because people would rather be around someone who is happy than someone who is grumpy all the time.

I completely agree that being grumpy just takes too much energy, it is so much easier and rewarding to be happy and find humor in everything you do.

THANK YOU CORINNE!

OUR VIEW

How did you make out with the Humor Evaluation from last month? You can still go do it at www.humorforyourhealth.com/humor_articles.html and find the Sense of Humor Evaluation. It gives 'you' a sense of your own view of Humor.

Now, let's talk about the word 'VALUE.' Let's even more specifically look at the value of humor. The word value in the dictionary is "worth; usefulness; importance; the meaning; effect; force."

So what is the value of humor keeping the definition in mind? This is one of the reasons why this site exists. It brings your focus and attention to Humor, showing you its value. Value is what we personally perceive to have worth and importance in our lives. Does humor have value to you?

I look at humor as now just starting to get the acknowledgement it deserves. The value of watching a funny movie, show or however you get your laughs is priceless. The importance of having this release is essential to your body's functions. (Next month we will be going into Humor and your Health - the relationship between how humor affects your health in specific ways.)

Other uses of humor are your attitude shifts when you go with the flow of life; you find yourself more in balance mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. You look to laugh more, find comedy in the situations in your life, and learn to tell and appreciate jokes. Valuing humor means respecting humor, knowing what is appropriate and inappropriate for you. The force that humor has when you play, when you affirm what your choices are and when you use skills and tools to fully love and embrace humor, has value beyond measure.

Those that remember the times they have experienced what humor is knows how important it is to keep it up. I invite you to honor those times and look for many more! I also invite you to explore this site fully and if so inclined to order The Humor for your Health Guidebook to see more of the value of humor for you.

WAYS TO PLAY

We have added this section as a means of keeping it REAL with HUMOR! In this section we will advise you on the benefits of PLAY and some ways to PLAY! We welcome your input on the ways you PLAY at info@humorforyourhealth.com

BENEFIT – Play gives you flexible variations in social interactions.

ONE SUGGESTION ON HOW TO PLAY – Go play with a new friend. Find out what their interests are and be open to experiencing their play-time (when appropriate for you.) You can find out so much about a person through playing. We find that children especially open up when played with.

CANADIAN ASSOCATION FOR THERAPUETIC HUMOR

The Canadian Association for Therapeutic Humor is on the road to great success!
Look for a Media kick of in the fall of 2001 and the first National Conference in the Spring of 2002! The Board is very strong and creative! Congratulations to Dan for being a Co-chair in this Association!

Please email us at info@humorforyourhealth.com if you want more information.

PATCH ADAMS!

Dan had the marvelous opportunity to emcee for Patch Adams when he was in Calgary at the Telus Convention Centre on May 29. Everyone should have the chance to see this magnificent man that has been called the 'Father of Therapeutic Humor!'

JOKE STYLES

In this section we will offer different joke styles. This month is one-liners.

One-Liners:
